Congratulations to Melbourne Studio Senior Architect Mario Notaro on his essay submission to the Artuminate Architectural Essay Competition, receiving an honourable mention.

Mario entered his essay discussing the role of literature in architectural Imagery. His essay explores the idea of architect as author. How a big idea might be explained in such a way that elicits an experience well before anything is built. In real world terms, how can literature be used to engage our clients more fully with a design idea right from the outset. As architects we attempt to tell stories with what we do. Cities are our scenes. Clients and inhabitants our characters. Distinguished design, is a story well told.

Mario comments on his motivation for entering saying "I felt it was well placed to subvert the notion of what we know architectural experience to be. To shed it from its final form, and explore how Architecture can be experienced in other ways and how that may in turn influence its real world manifestation."
