Pavilion Performing Arts Centre, featured in Architecture Australia

Standing proudly in the heart of the Shire, The Pavilion Performing Arts Centre, located on Dharawal country, in the heart of the Sutherland Shire Civic Centre, represents a new chapter in providing a world-class performing arts venue.

Designed through collaboration between NBRS' Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Interior Design Studios and CHROFI, The Pavilion reimagines the previous Sutherland Entertainment Centre, preserving aspects of the former building while creating a contemporary new public venue to cater for a diversity of cultural and technical needs.

Built within the ‘bones’ of the original 1976 Sutherland Entertainment Centre, the approach was to work with the existing space, creating a welcoming timber and glass foyer that improves connection with the neighbouring Peace Park.

“The inventive refurbishment of an existing performance venue extends the community’s opportunities and opens up the growing suburb’s civic heart.” writes Lee Hillam.

The new entry openly invites visitors to come and explore the building while creating a strong connection to the landscape. The thoughtful integration of outdoor design principles transforms the Pavilion into a community focal point. This synergy between architecture and landscape elevates the civic allure of Peace Park, inviting residents and visitors to come together and engage in shared cultural experiences.

The venue boasts a spacious auditorium with a capacity of more than 680 seats, ensuring each guest enjoys an intimate and engaging experience. In addition to the main auditorium, The Pavilion features versatile event spaces that can accommodate a range of performances, exhibitions, conferences, and community gatherings.

Visitors can be immersed in a captivating atmosphere that blends elegance, innovation, and artistic vibrancy. The Pavilion Performing Arts Centre sets a benchmark for performing arts facilities in the Shire, supporting the local community while attracting touring productions to the region.
