At NBRS we aim to bring a holistic experience to all of our projects, whether its learned experience or lived experience, we do our best to connect with the end user in aim to provide the best experience for every user of the space.

We have been fortunate to have had an experienced, versatile team working across the new Westmead Hospital Mother Baby Unit, including our very own mother-to-be, and NBRS Associate Architect, Maria Orellana Romero. Providing her experience as an expectant mother throughout the design and construction process, Maria has had a fantastic role to play in ensuring the details of the new unit are truly fitting to the mothers who will be soon inside.

The Mother Baby Unit has been designed to allow mothers suffering from acute mental health issues to be admitted to a safe and comfortable inpatient unit along with their newborns. With a trauma-informed approach to design, the spaces will be unintimidating, warm and comfortable. Mothers and their babies will enjoy warm, playful home-like spaces where wellness is integrated with daily life.

The Mother Baby Unit is due to be completed later this year, take a further look into this vital new service for the Western Sydney Local Health District here: https://www.hinfra.health.nsw....
