Expansion and relocation of an existing forensic mental health facility to a new campus enabling contemporary models of mental health care.
NSW Health Infrastructure engaged NBRS to undertake the design for the Planning and Delivery phases of the Bunya unit of Blacktown Hospital, as part of the State Wide Mental Health Infrastructure Program (SWMHIP).
The Bunya unit is an existing 24 bed, medium secure forensic mental health facility currently located on the Cumberland Hospital East Campus. The unit is to be relocated to the Blacktown Hospital Campus.
The project brief is for a new-build, 44 bed facility on an occupied site. 24 beds will replace the Medium Secure unit at Cumberland and an additional 20 Low Secure beds will be provided.
This asset replacement and expansion will help meet the ongoing need for forensic mental health services across the region, while also upgrading and enabling contemporary models of care.
