Burudyara - The Concord Forensic Mental Health Unit is located in the Sydney Local Health District in NSW and is part of the State Wide Mental Health Infrastructure Program (SWMHIP). This project forms part of the $700m capital works component of a broader series of reforms across the state's mental health services. This facility will complement the $341m redevelopment of Concord Hospital and $32.4m multi-storey carpark currently under construction.

NBRS have been engaged by Health Infrastructure from the Masterplanning Stage. The proposed project is a new purpose-built Low and Medium Secure forensic mental health unit, incorporating the Functional Brief and Model of Care principles.

The facility includes the following:

  • 18 Medium Secure Forensic Beds in pod format on Ground Floor
  • 24 Low Secure Forensic Beds in Unit-style layout with amenities on Level 1
  • Clinical Support spaces across both Low and Medium Secure floors
  • Medium Secure outdoor courtyard spaces on Ground Floor - comprising an active outdoor space with court and activity areas, and a separate sensory courtyard for reflection and relaxation
  • Low Secure balcony spaces with seating and landscaping
  • Staff offices, workspace and tearoom on Level 2, providing a retreat space away from consumers for staff.

The project is about to enter the construction phase, expecting to be completed by late 2025.
