The NBRS Landscape Architecture team were engaged to design a distinctive outdoor play/learning zone for students attending the PLC Junior School. In particular, is the garden setting which places lush greenery at the forefront, contrasting the urban location.
A large outdoor space is positioned in the centre surrounded by various garden areas, fringing learning spaces, forecourt entry areas and sensory and vegetable gardens. Providing students the chance to unwind from the bustle of the classroom, get some exercise and still provide inquiry learning opportunities for students intrigued about nature.
The design incorporated ponds with viewing panels containing various fish species and invertebrates while providing interpretive signage allowing students to observe and learn about the underwater activities, ecology and life cycles of the aquatic life.
Also featured is an Insectarium which gives students the chance to learn about insects, insect breeding, and bees with the help of a Taronga Zoo zoologist, allowing students to learn about wildlife conservation.
