Improving Access To Life-Saving Health Services

Wellness
Architecture

NBRS was engaged with the relocation of the preexisting ground level Helipad at the Port Macquarie Base Hospital to a state-of-the-art rooftop Helipad, located above the current emergency department. The existing Helipad had been located to the East of the hospital site surrounded by on-grade parking facilities and away from the existing emergency department, operating theatres and IPU wards. This led to a compromise in patient transfer and safety.

The relocation has seen the new Helipad built on level 4 over the emergency department located on level 2. To ensure the smooth transfer of patients from the helipad to the emergency rooms, a new dedicated passenger lift/bed servicing lift was designed with an enclosed pedestrian link/patient transfer corridor improving the control, safety and speed staff could start treating patients.

This new Helipad is expected to receive between 50-60 retrievals a year, greatly enhancing the health service in the Mid North Coast community.
