Reimaging aquatics for a flourishing community

The heart of the Hills Shire Council area since 1967, Waves Fitness and Aquatic Centre has been reimagined to become a modern and welcoming space of sport and recreation for the community.

As the only aquatic centre in the Hills Shire, this centre fills a gap in provision of Aquatic Centres in that particular area of Sydney. Working alongside Donovan Payne to deliver this facility, the site provides secure 24hr access to a 900sqm gym fitted with the latest equipment, fitness programs offered in the multipurpose rooms. Outdoor pools facilitate school carnival events, lap swimming and programs and the indoor pools provide all weather learn to swim and programs. Other facilities include a commercial cafe, two community rooms and a club house.

In keeping with the history of the site, the new centre has taken into consideration the significance of the existing memorial, creating a green, expansive landscape around the memorial which aligns with the Shire's slogan "Sydney's Garden Shire" but also creates a peaceful space for the community to gather. Additional landscaping throughout the site will allow for outdoor play, utilising all spaces within the facility to promote a space of adventure and recreation.

Waves is an aquatic centre that boasts more than just pools for lane swimming. It is a facility for all capacities and cultures offering leisure, fitness and most importantly, the essential ability to swim. As we continue to urbanise our living environments, this aquatic centre will be a key part of the communities infrastructure for many years to come.
