Laying the foundation for the leaders of tomorrow, our Envision program invites some of the most creative young minds in the architecture and design industry to intern with us. Collaboratively, they investigate an emerging industry topic through the interplay of research and design.
A studio project is completed over the duration of the program, involving intensive research followed by design experimentation, culminating in the production and presentation of a formal publication.
Students have the opportunity to engage with user groups and key members of relevant industries throughout the program to inform their designs.
ENVISION is a Student Partnership Program by NBRS. Through this program we partner with some of the most creative young minds in the design industry. This unique internship program encourages students to investigate collaboratively and provides them with an opportunity to experiment through an interplay of research and design.
“A great intensive design research program! An innovative way to introduce students to the dynamics of the architecture industry – from forming an informed and pragmatic way to approach design to presenting ideas to clients and colleagues.”
“I really enjoyed the whole process thoroughly; from the heavy research we have conducted to the resolution of our design. It was really great to see how everything came together eventually… I find that the program really gives empowerment to us as fresh graduates, giving us more confidence in our start in the workplace.”
You will undoubtedly learn many new skills and expand existing ones! Here’s what some of our previous participants said:
“Communication skills & being able to narrow down an idea to its simplest form.”
“Throughout the whole program, I have gained time management skills, as well as learning how to delegate each task based on the strength and weaknesses of the team members.”
“Various professional practice skills that you can’t learn at uni.”
Not a chance – we even have an awesome coffee machine for you to get a free coffee every morning! Not only are our students paid, but their time during the program is packed full of exciting design and research tasks. The program is varied, involving mentoring from our experienced architects and heritage consultants, interviews with real industry stakeholders, design sessions with our Chief Design Officer, reading existing research, problem solving, writing, sketching, imagining and much more.
“This is one of the best internship programs I have come across… Many of my peers have been involved in internships that didn’t allow them to connect with other members of staff on the level that we did, or work in a team to produce meaningful work that contributes to the office vision – so I was very honoured to be a part of the program.”
You will be mentored by senior professionals at NBRS to research a defined topic. You will meet with industry experts and stakeholders to explore the hypothesis and prepare a research report. The outcome is a research paper which NBRS will publish and release to the Architecture and Conservation industry. For further details on the program and research topic, please download our program flyer.
