The NBRS Heritage team is pleased to announce that the adaptive re-use of Porter House, on Castlereagh Street in Sydney, is now complete. The conversion of this Victorian warehouse building into bar, restaurant and function rooms to has been designed by Candalepas Associates to support the new hotel on the neighboring site.
NBRS worked with Hutchinson Builders to provide heritage conservation advice throughout construction works. The project has transformed this historic site through Candalepas Associates’ sensitive and contemporary additions, and through conservation works to historic fabric. These works included the retention of exposed floor joists and timber posts, and the conservation of early brickwork, the sandstone façade, remnant pressed metal ceilings and the later terrazzo and steel staircase.
